Frequently Asked Questions

- What is FTTx?

The telecommunications industry differentiates between several distinct configurations. The terms in most widespread use today are:

FTTN - Fiber-to-the-node - this is very similar to FTTC, but the street cabinet is further away from the user's premises; it can be up to several kilometers away.
FTTC - Fiber-to-the-cabinet or fiber-to-the-curb - fiber is terminated in a street cabinet typically closer than 300m of the customer premises, with the final connection being copper.
FTTB- Fiber-to-the-building or Fiber-to-the-basement - fiber reaches the boundary of the building, such as the basement in an multi dwelling unit, with the final connection to the individual living space being made via alterative means.
FTTH- Fiber-to-the-home - fiber reaches the boundary of the living space, such as a box on the outside wall of a home or office
FTTP- Fiber-to-the premises - this term is used in several contexts: as a blanket term for both FTTH and FTTB, or where the fiber network includes both homes and small businesses

- What flavor of FTTx does ConnecTel offer?

We offer FTTU/FTTP where the fiber is directly terminated inside the customer’s premises, which ensures the end to end delivery on optical signals. ConnecTel also offers FTTB services, for buildings and multi dwelling units.

- How many types of FTTP/FTTU Configurations exist?

Technically there are two categories
  • Active - Which means the fiber optic is lit with optical signals
  • Passive - Which means that fiber optic cable is unlit
  • ConnecTel uses Active FTTU/FTTP configurations.

    - What is ISDN PRI?

The ISDN primary rate interface (PRI) is a telecommunications standard for carrying multiple DS0 voice and data transmissions between a network and a user. The Primary Rate Interface channels are typically used by medium to large enterprises with digital PBXs to provide them digital access to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The 30 channels can be used flexibly and reassigned when necessary to meet special needs such as video conferences. The Primary Rate user is hooked up directly to the telephone company central office.

    - What is IP Telephony

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a general term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over IP networks such as the Internet or other packet-switched networks. Other terms frequently encountered and synonymous with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, and broadband phone. Internet telephony refers to communications services — voice, facsimile, and/or voice-messaging applications — that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
